What do I like about China?
At the end of the 1800s China's four million square miles held 450 million people, up from 200 million a century earlier. The ruling dynasty was the Ching, established by Manchus from Manchuria, who in 1644 had superseded the Ming
Notice!
The Manchu emperors were remarkably successful. The reign of Chien-lung (1736-1795) was a time of great expansion. The Manchus gained Turkestan, Burma, and Tibet. By the end of the eighteenth century Manchu power extended even into Nepal, and the territory under the Ching control was as extensive as under any previous dynasty
What is it made of?
Most of their tools, such as axes, knives, shovels, and arrowheads, were made of stone, but some, such as needles, were composed of animal bone. They also had ornaments for personal decoration such as hairpins, beads, and rings. All were made of bone, shell, stone, or animal teeth.

Think about!
Thirty-five miles east of the great city of Xi'an holds one of the wonders of the world. Over 2100 years ago, Emperor Shih Huang-ti or Qin Shih Huang's terra cotta army, sculpted during his reign, was laid to rest in a magnificent tomb. Creator of the first unified China for which he gives his name, the Ch'in dynasty, the Emperor ordered the construction of this extraordinary mausoleum when he was only 13 years old. Thirty-six years and 700,000 construction workers later, the Terracotta Army of Xi'an is one of the world's most impressive displays.

In the future, archaeologists expect to excavate the remaining parts of Shih Huang-ti's mausoleum.
